11/11/2021 Update: Since the time of publishing this post, one more person has died of their injuries. The total number of deaths from the Astroworld Music Festival Mass Casualty Event is now 9.
Stories of the horror that was Travis Scott’s performance on Friday 5 Nov. 2021 at the Astroworld Music Festival are beginning to surface. Attendees of the music festival have shared some of their stories of survival and trauma from what should have been a fun night out to a concert.
Attendees are reporting that even before Travis Scott took the stage to perform, the crowd was so condensed they could not move. Once Mr. Scott began performing his first song, some attendees report witnessing others pass out in the crowd surge.
For many people at the concert, it was a day of firsts and not the good kind; it was the first time they have seen a dead body, the first time they have feared for their lives, the first time they wondered if they would make it home to see their loved ones.
Even as terrified concertgoers pleaded with lighting technicians and camera operators to shut it down it seems there was not enough staff to handle the madness and safely contain the crowd.
