More than a thousand people have already signed a petition on change.org to have Travis Scott removed from Day N Vegas and Coachella music festivals after the incident that took place on Friday at the Astroworld Music Festival.
The petition states:
“His deliberate recklessness and disregard for safety by encouraging rowdy crowds to rage and rush the security lines is an endangerment to all attendees, and he should be held accountable for his actions. What we have witnessed last night could have been avoided and stopped, however, Travis wanted the show to keep going even as he saw unconscious and dead bodies being trampled and carried out, medic trucks being jumped on, people screaming and crying in terror, and he continued to perform anyway. This is not the first time he has encouraged such reckless behavior, and if he is continually allowed to participate in these festivals, it will definitely not be the last, so we are desperately asking him to be removed from all said future lineups and for there to be extra safety measures taken to ensure the safety of all festival/concert attendees.”
Commenters on the petition shared feelings of disbelief in what happened and the recklessness of Mr. Scott and the venue organizers.
One signer of the petition wrote the following:
“This was an act of pure negligence. To keep playing music when people are dying is a sick and terrible thing. How selfish of him to think of his music better then [sic] life itself. Something needs to be done and Travis should have to pay the consequences for his actions,” wrote petitioner Logan Williams.
Another person who signed the petition commented:
“I won’t feel safe going to his show at DayNVegas and I’m sure many others feel the same. What happened at Astroworld2021 was not an isolated incident, Travis has been in legal trouble for encouraging his fans to ignore security measures TWICE in the past as well. He encourages people to sneak in and “rage.” He knew people were getting hurt but didn’t care. He has the blood of 8 souls on his hands. He should not be there,” wrote petitioner Jamie Longmore.
Feelings of anger toward Mr. Scott are shared by numerous petitioners; some believe that he should not be allowed to perform anymore:
“Whipping up frenzied young concertgoers into “raging,” and urging them to thrust their middle fingers to the sky, lays the foundation for violence, injury—and DEATH. Especially when tens of thousands of fans are jammed together under standing-room-only conditions. Sorry, “Travis”—your live performance days are OVER,” wrote petitioner Michael Stolte.
